OUR STUDIO SPACE
As we looked to create our new home, our team envisioned our place of work from the beginning as a vessel - a space in which ideas would arise and visions would manifest. Our way to achieve this was to create a visual tension between what would eventually become two distinct spaces - our office with its open studio and natural light, and our gallery space with its feature wall on display as the “object”.
OUR WORK ENVIRONMENT - FAVORS COLLABORATION
Because our work is built on collaboration, it was important to provide our team with a space they can call their own while being open and inviting. A great deal of thought was given to ways we would maximize the natural light; in addition to our strategically built skylights, we opted for a glass studio back wall that retracts like a garage door and can be left open during the cooler months of the year. We limited enclosed areas to those that were strictly necessary - a few offices spaces and conference rooms with glass windows which are easily closed off when privacy is needed, to maintain the natural light and the ethos of transparency.
OUR GALLERY SPACE - PROMOTES INNOVATIVE THINKING
To develop the concept of the feature wall or “object”, we turned to modern manufacturing techniques, parametric design and digital fabrication. We worked through a series of iterations and adopted the required software and know-how to develop not only a complex geometry, but a process to efficiently produce repeatable free-form objects. That process would allow us to produce objects in different scales, be it a piece of furniture or a building. The true test was when our team installed all the pieces themselves to assemble this feature wall - widely seen from the street, the feature wall within its gallery morphs seamlessly into its surroundings.
